Our co-founder and CEO, Javier García, has been chosen as the recipient of the TAMBOR DE ORO 2023 by the Board of Spokespersons of the City Hall of San Sebastián—with no need of a popular vote—“for his career and contribution to the promotion and advancement of the city as a city of science of knowledge.”

He will receive the award on January 20, 2023.

The Mayor of Donostia stressed that Javier “is a person who has proven his close connection with our city in his field of work, gene therapy. In the last five or six years, thanks to Viralgen, he has put our city at the forefront with regards to this kind of therapies. It is a huge contribution to what this city represents.”

In addition, the City Council of Donostia has stated that Javier “has been key in being a catalyst for Donostia’s international projection strategy of becoming a magnet for bio-health companies and promoting the creation of high-value and growing businesses.

Javier García has been chosen from among 133 candidates, including well-known figures such as chef Karlos Arguiñano, former coach John Benjamin Toshack and artist Amaia Montero.
