The mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, presented on Friday, January 20, the Tambor de Oro 2023 – a highly prestigious recognition – to Javier García Cogorro during the ceremony celebrated in the Plenary Hall of the City Hall in one of the official events of the Day of San Sebastian.

He has been elected Tambor de Oro 2023 for his personal, professional, and emotional involvement in turning Donostia into an international reference as a city of science and innovation. For the effort invested and the work done to develop a sector on the rise, the biosciences and health, and his firm commitment to creating and attracting talent.

In the words of the Mayor of San Sebastian, Eneko Goia, "thanks to people like Javier, who promote scientific projects associated with health, we can think that diseases are disorders that human knowledge can solve."

"Because what lies behind the recognition we offer Javier today is a lot of work. His and that of many other people in his team, of many teams that, constantly, silently, persistently, search, try, test, think, raise, test and test again until they find solutions to seemingly unsolvable problems," said the mayor.

"I believe that it is no coincidence that Viralgen, and all the projects Javier has promoted, have found their framework in San Sebastian. Our city and territory have been betting and creating conditions for people like Javier to find here the necessary humus to settle initiatives linked to science and knowledge, " he added.

Thanks to his efficient management, in just a few years, Javier has turned Viralgen into a world reference in a sector that is changing the history of medicine.

From Viralgen, we are very proud of you, Javier!
